I am a 70 year female who has been through a lot. In June 2013, I had a right hip arthroscopic surgery to fix labral tears and acetabular impingement. That is a surgery that I never really recovered from. There was some abdominal pain left over. In 2017 I did some Googling. Doctors hate this. I started to see comments about the psoas tendon. Also at this time I was able to get an ultrasound. It showed psoas tendon tendinosis's. My primary did not know what to do.
I went to my pain doctor and he ordered myofascial release. Meanwhile my pain doctor changed practices. Due to non compete rules I did not know where he went. I did stick with the PT and started to see D.O.s 90 miles from here. So between 2017 and 2019 I had 50+ PT sessions and 30+ D.O. manipulations visits. There were 2 steroid SI injections and 1 psoas injection. Actually I got my best relief from the SI injections.
Around April 2019, I started to look into stem cell injections to the hip. I was able to find my original pain doctor. He was 100 miles away. I had both hips injected. It gave me hip relief for about 6 months, while that abdominal pain would not go away. Also insurance does does cover this. It is not cheap.
So in December 2019 I started to go to a larger hospital system over 100 miles away. There were many visits and nobody really seemed to hear me when I said psoas tendon. There was more PT. I actually had video PT during the pandemic. So, I came back home. I went through several orthopedic doctors before finding a surgeon who would work with me.
There is no real guarantees that I will be better 6 months from now. It is something I am really willing to risk. When the tendon is released I will definitely be weaker. Afterward I do not know how well those muscles will work. There is a possibility I will be using a cane or walker..
Also there is the pain issue. How much of my current pain is coming from the hip and how much from the tendon. I putting odds on the tendon and my doctor is putting odds on the hip. Boy a crystal ball would be handy now.
